FAQ’s

Q. How soon should I contact Kylie Johnson Photography?
A. ASAP – demand is high and spaces are filled months in advance.

Q. How long will the photo shoot take?
A. The shoot can take anywhere from 1-2 hours. To create a lovely, natural feel to the photographs I take a relaxed and friendly approach to the photo shoot. We chat and have some fun. If you are having a good time, it will show in the photographs!

Q. Can our pet be part of the photo-shoot?
A. Most definitely. A pet is just as much part of your family as anyone else, so why not be part of this experience too. Plus, pets help to create the lovely candid moments that make the images so special.

Q. Do you come to the home?
A.Yes we do. Your own home reflects you and who you are, so it’s a great location.

Q. What is the best time for a photo shoot?
A. In the studio or an inside location can be done at any time of the day really. If children are involved, it’s best to make a time that your child is usually at his/her best. Outside shoots are best done in the morning or late afternoon when the light is at its best. But if the location has a lot of shady trees, anytime of the day would be fine. We can discuss this further and guide you to what is going to best.

Q. What if it rains?
A.Unless it’s actually bucketing down or storming, it can make for nice images! The light is usually lovely and soft and can create a gorgeous feel to your photographs. You could even embrace the situation and put on some gumboots and raincoats and have some fun with it! Umbrellas make a nice prop in images also. This can be discussed further with your photographer. The worst-case scenario would be to re-schedule and you would receive priority for the next time slot available.

Q. Can the children wear costumes?
A.Costumes are always fun and its what being a kid is all about. We are more than happy to photograph your children with costumes on. If you would like them to wear ‘normal’ clothes as well, just bring them along and they can always get changed.

Q. What sort of clothing is best?
A.You can discuss this further with us at the pre-plan appointment, but generally plain is better. No patterns or big logos, because they look messy and take the attention away from what’s important. So, stick with plain colours. They can be pastel or bold, just as long as they are plain. Denims also look really lovely in images. By keeping it simple, the images won’t date and you can hang them on your wall for a lifetime without being embarrassed by your styling at the time.

Q. Where and when do I view and order my photographs?
A. You can organise a time for a viewing & ordering appointment with the photographer on the day of the shoot. The appointment will be held at my home studio and you will see your photographs displayed on a big screen TV. All of the products available are also on display for you see. The viewing can take anywhere from one to two hours. It just depends on you really and how quickly you can decide.

Q. What if I can’t decide at the viewing and ordering appointment and need to see the photographs again?
A. It’s a big decision so we are happy to show you the photographs again. However, to pay for our extra time we will charge you $150 for each extra viewing session. So, it is better to know what you might want and perhaps what you can afford and have all relevant parties present for the first viewing as it is at no charge to you.

Q. What if I have to cancel my photo shoot or appointment?
A.Obviously, we can understand that things can happen and you might need to change a photo shoot, pre-plan or viewing and ordering appointment. We just ask that you be courteous and let us know ASAP. We will be happy to re-schedule your appointment if there are circumstances out of your control. No shows or cancellations within 48 hours will forfeit the booking fee.

Q. Can we view the images on-line?
A. Unfortunately, no. The files are just too large and Kylie Johnson Photography doesn’t have the facilities for this. Seeing your photographs on a big glossy screen is just so much nicer anyway and we want you to enjoy the full experience.

Q. Can we buy the images on disc, so we can print them out ourselves?
A. This is a tough question for any photographer. The reason being that the output of your image (the print/canvas etc) can vary dramatically from one printer, photographic lab etc to another. So the images can look very different. And can sometimes mean the difference between a beautiful piece of art to just plain awful. So, for quality control of our work Kylie Johnson Photography likes to print out your images for you so we know that you are getting the best possible result. We have spent a very long time sourcing the best printers and our computer screens all match the labs, so we know our work will come out at its best and we are happy to have our name attached to that work of art.

But, we do understand that this is a digital age and everyone wants to share their photographs on facebook or via email, so you will be happy to know that each photograph you purchase (whether it be a canvas, a print or in an album) you will receive the digital negative of that photograph. This way, we know you will have beautiful works of art that Kylie Johnson Photography has supervised and made for you, plus you have the file to share as you wish. Everyone wins!!!

Q. What payment methods can I use to make a purchase?
A. You can pay cash, cheque, credit or debit card. We have a mobile credit card machine.

Q. Who owns the copyright of my photographs?
A. Please remember that Kylie Johnson Photography retains the copyright to all images taken on your photo shoot. And please be aware that while you may have the files of your photographs there will be restrictions on their use and you will be asked to sign a legal document stating these restrictions. Its not as scary as it sounds, basically the files are only for personal use and cannot be used in promotion for yourself or a business (eg, websites, brochures etc) unless an alternative agreement has been made with the studio.

Q. How long does Kylie Johnson Photography keep my photographs?
A. Once you have made your order and it has been processed, Kylie Johnson Photography will delete the files from our system to save limited space. We do ask you stick with our timeline as we have a strict workflow schedule.

Q. What if I am unhappy with my photographs?

A. I have never actually had this happen, but just to ease my client’s minds I have created a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you aren’t 100% happy with your images, I will arrange a re-shoot at no extra charge to you at all. If after the re-shoot you are still not 100% satisfied I will return all money paid by you, including the booking fee. No questions asked and no hard feelings. You can’t go wrong!!!
